The Robin Hood tax rally

Last saturday I was taking pictures at a rally organized by “occupy vancouver”. It started with a speech from an economist on the benefits of implementing the robin hood tax, followed by a rhythmic march around downtown accompanied by mesmerizing samba beats. As economics student I found the tax proposal to be interesting and would encourage others to read up on it.

This is a picture of one of the musicians during the rally. I always imagined that saxophone is one of the hardest instruments to play. The intensity of his face reaffirms this belief.

Sunny Days

So here’s my attempt at posting more often than my usual twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday. These days Vancouver has been generous enough to indulge us with a number of sunny days. It’s not beach sunny but still is a nice break before the winter comes knocking, with months of rain it always carries. But it’s not here yet so in the spirit of good weather here’s a warm little picture.

Canuck

This one of the many canucks fans that came out onto the streets of Vancouver during the 2011 Stanley Cup finals. This particular picture was taken during the game 5 victory. A truly emotional and a special time for the city. This guy’s face says it all really.

Fireworks

Yesterday was the last day of the Celebration of Light in Vancouver. I haven’t taken any pics of this year’s fireworks so yesterday was my last chance to go out there and shoot. Sadly I had a little motorcycle accident which had me glued to my bed all day. This however gives me an opportunity to finally share some pics from the previous years from various angles:)

Sons of Granville

Few days ago Vancouver decided to come alive in a big way with different festivals/performances happening around the city. I ended up going to downtown Vancouver for a series of concerts. The picture below is of Matt from one of the performing bands “Sons of Granville“. Matt is a friend of a good friend so I’ve seen them perform a few times. They have a very unique sound and create some great stuff with just a violin and a guitar. Really good stuff.

Lately I’ve developed a particular interest in black and white photography. I usually like my colours and feel like they do a better job at telling the story but now I’m starting to change my mind. I feel like it helps attract attention to some details/emotions in a way that colour can’t, not necessarily in a better way but rather different. So this is my attempt at it.

Below are some other pics from that day.
