Sons of Granville at The Backstage Lounge Part I (or a naked mad playing viola)

I don’t usually take pictures during live shows or similar events for several reasons. For one there are often many other photographers aiming at the same thing at the same time. We won’t necessarily be getting the same results but it still takes the excitement of shooting away from me. Though socializing and sharing the experience with other photographers could be fun too. Another reason why I don’t do it is because I want to simply enjoy the show without worrying where my camera is.

I’ve expressed my admiration for Sons of Granville in my earlier posts about them. These guys do know how to put on an entertaining show. That particular day things went a little crazier than usual and it must have surely been my first time seeing an almost naked man play a viola (not something you see very often).

I do enjoy taking their pictures and It’s always hard to pick just a few to post. So I’ve decided not to limit myself and have 2 posts. I’ll post Part II sometime later in the week when I find time to finish the rest of the editing from that day.

Berliner Saxophonist

As you see I’ve changed a few things on the site in the past week. If you found Curious Lines looking all weird at some point or if something wasn’t working that was me messing with it. Apart from its looks I’ve changed a few structural things and that threw my “like” count away. So feel free to share and “like” away 😉
This picture, as the title suggests, was taken in Berlin. I’ve already posted a few pictures of saxophonists from Belgium and Vancouver but this one is my most favourite out of the three:)

Chair lifts (whistler)

This is actually a pretty old picture from one of the days in whistler. I thought it was very appropriate given I haven’t yet been up the mountain this season. If you know the mountains at all this is on blackcomb around the 7th heaven area, one of my favourite places to ride, truly is heaven on certain days.

Ljubljana main square panorama

I don’t shoot very often in the dark for whatever reason. I guess I just don’t carry my camera when go out in the evenings, maybe I’m too lazy because it sometimes implies carrying a tripod. This was one time that I did have it with me during a late night walk through Ljubljana. The main square looked so much emptier, more inviting and interesting in a different way so I decided to set up my mini tripod (which got later confiscated in sweden) and took a few shots. I think this was one of my very first panorama shots. It’s a little crooked and I didn’t quite get all of the buildings in but I think it’s still alright. (click on the pic to enlarge)

Reaching for the dark skies

I don’t own a wide enough lens so sometimes I have to take multiple shots and stitch them together to get what I want. It’s not quite the same but still a very helpful trick. This slightly complicates things for me as I often take 3 exposures of the same thing. So this technically is 9 shots layered and stitched together. With a lot of people moving around and no tripod this could get tricky. You have to hold your breath and make sure you don’t move a muscle, not even slightly. I’ve been shooting hdr without a tripod for a little while now and think I’m getting much better at this whole holding your breath part of it.

As always if you like this don’t forget to “like” and share;)

Ernest has been here

Pamplona is famous for its encierro; the running of the bulls and the festival of San Fermín, which a lot of people claim to be the craziest party/festival in the world. But some people better know it through Hemingway and his travels in northern Spain, which inspired some of his books. So when standing in the central plaza, not too far from a little cafe named after him I couldn’t help but spare a thought that Hemingway must have surely been here.
